Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade: the market council is necessary to pool the interests of retailers and manufacturers

Within the Russian Textile Week, Expocentre Fairgrounds hosted an enlarged meeting of the heads of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade with representatives of retail chains and textile industry enterprises. It was devoted to the Necessity to Create Self-Regulating Market Council to Pool the Interests of Retailers and Manufacturers. Prospects of Abiding to the Code of Good Practice.  

In his speech State Secretary and Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov underlined the relevance of the self-regulating market council to bring together retailers and manufacturers and bridge differences arising between market participants.

The Russian textile industry includes 14,000 enterprises. The majority of them manufacture products for end users. The share of chain retail in the clothing market is 25% and is expected to grow. “Recently we’ve seen growth of mutual trust, mutual interest and closer cooperation among Russian manufacturers and retailers. The government’s task is to ensure good practices in the market. The market council of retails and manufacturers can become an effective tool to resolve differences,” said Mr. Evtukhov.

During the meeting, representatives of textile retailers, manufacturers and suppliers exchanged opinions about the Code of Good Practice, networking and cooperation, and discussed the necessity to regulate relations between suppliers and retailers, and other relevant issues.
